NCP takes pothole battle to Twitter

Mumbai: In a bid to connect better with Mumbaikars ahead of the Assembly election, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has decided to take on the ruling Shiv Sena over the issue of potholes in the city.

The party has directed its workers to click pictures of potholes and post them on Twitter tagging the BMC’s official handle. It has also urged citizens to join the campaign.

The party has also come up with the hashtags #KhaddeKaAdda and #MumbaiPotholes to highlight the apathy.

The Twitter campaign will continue till all the potholes   in the city are eliminated.

The party thinks that this move will galvanise the BMC to undertake an audit of city’s potholes.  

Moreover, NCP has threatened that its workers will hit the roads if the civic body fails to fix the potholes within a week.

Mumbai NCP chief Nawab Malik blamed the Shiv Sena, arguing that shoddy road construction work in the last 25 years has led to the problem of potholes across the city. He added that despite being in power for over two decades, the Sena has failed to concretise roads in Mumbai.

“We have begun our protest against potholes. If grievances are not addressed by the civic authority, the party would organise protests in each ward of the city in the coming days,” Mr Malik said.

Two years ago, senior NCP leader and Baramati MP Supriya Sule had taken selfies with potholes at Katraj-Undri bypass and Bopdev Ghat in Pune and posted them on Twitter to convey her inconvenience.
