21 kids saved from inhuman working state

Mumbai: The district administration has finally woken up from its slumber to crackdown on the rampant violation of the Child Labour (Prohibition And Regulation) Act, 1986, in the twin-city. In a joint operation, the officials from the Maharashtra Child Development Labour Welfare Department along with the personnel from the Thane (rural) police raided establishments in the Kashimira belt, rescuing 21 children who were being made to work in utmost inhuman conditions for about 12 to 15 hours a day.

According to the police, surprise raids were conducted in establishments including eateries, shops and industries located in the Kaju Pada and Kashigaon area of Mira Road on Wednesday. While the rescued children have been sent to the children’s home, a case has been registered against the employers under section 374 of
the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for unlawful compulsory labour and the relevant sections of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act.
