Congress corporator claims someone forged mom, kin's ID cards
Mumbai: Congress corporator Sheetal Mhatre from Dahisar and has alleged that somebody has forged her mother’s signature to get another voter ID card made on her name.
Not only this, she has also claimed that her brother who holds a Canadian passport also has got a voter ID card but with changes in his surname. “I came to know now that my mother who is a registered voter has been registered as a voter in some other area too. We have been staying in a particular place for all these years and everyone in my family is registered as a voter from that house. We moved to a new place, but retained our old address and voting from the previous residence,” said Ms Mhatre.
Ms Mhatre, who is president of Congress’ women wing in Mumbai claimed that a voter ID card on her brother’s name has come with changed surname. “But his picture is there on it. My brother is a Canadian passport holder since 2010. How can he have a voter id card?” she asked. Ms Mhatre is a sitting corporator and plans to contest once again.
Raising the doubt that someone has forged documents and signatures, Ms Mhatre claimed that her mother was out of Mumbai when the registration for new voters in the city took place. “So how did her name appear on the new address, when there was no application made from her side?” she added. The address for both the voter cards are the same new one where the Mhatre family currently resides. However, BMC’s election in-charge Sanjay Deshmukh, claimed that the voter list isn’t there jurisdiction and hence they can do nothing. “If there is a problem in the voter list, then the election commission can look into it,” said a senior officer related to the BMC elections.
Meanwhile, Ms Mhatre hasn’t yet registered a complaint but highlighted the issue on social media.
