Ex-corporator in dock for misusing political powers

Mumbai: Parksite police has arrested an ex-local corporator, Harun Yusuf Khan, for misbehaving with a local, getting into a scuffle, and misusing his powers in public on Sunday. The complainant, Sunil Baburao Chavan (44), was in his Maruti Alto, when arrested accused, Mr Khan, along with his wanted accomplice, Pravin Bede, assaulted Mr Chavan in public for dashing his car. Parksite police is on the lookout for the absconding accused and has booked the duo under relevant sections of IPC.

The two accused, Mr Khan and Mr Bede, intercepted the Maruti Alto being driven by Mr Chavan on Sunday, as he brushed his car along their car with the accused duo engaging in a verbal spat with Mr Chavan, followed by physical assault and abuse. Mr Khan, who was elected as local corporator twice from his constituency in Vikhroli, started threatening Mr Chavan that he would use his political powers and turn the tables on the latter. When the duo started assaulting and abusing Mr Chavan, they said they had great political connections and could get away with this. Mr Chavan ended up physically hurt with a broken wristwatch.

The incident took place on Sunday at 11.05 pm near Malgudi Hotel opposite Saibaba Mandir in Parksite, Vikhroli. The complainant Mr Chavan was returning from his house in Ghatkopar and heading towards Vikhroli when the incident occurred. Speaking to The Asian Age, senior police inspector of Parksite police station, Vilas Jadhav, said, “We have arrested ex-local corporator Mr Khan and are on the lookout for the other absconding accused Mr Bede.

Mr Chavan has lodged a complaint against the two accused for voluntarily causing him hurt. We are investigating the case and have booked the two accused under relevant sections of IPC.” The police has booked the two accused - of which Mr Khan has been arrested while Mr Bede is absconding - under sections 323, 341, 504, 506, 34 and 427 for causing hurt, punishment for wrongful restraint.
