Need to probe kamala mills director's role: mumbai police to Bhoiwada court

He also said that the police wanted to investigate whether Gowani was involved in any business with the said establishments.

Mumbai: The Mumbai police on Tuesday told the Bhoiwada court that it needs to investigate the role of Ramesh Gowani, director of Kamala Mills, in the irregularities related to the construction and structural changes in Mojo’s Bistro and 1 Above, which were gutted in a fire on December 29, 2017.

The court was told that the police needs to look into his role as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also levelled allegations against the owners of Kamala Mills in this regard. The court remanded him in police custody till January 29.

Sanjay Vadhavane, public prosecutor, argued that fire-fighting system of Trade House building (where the incident had occurred) was not working and the basement was also being used illegally. Both establishments had erected illegal sheds on the terrace, therefore the police wanted to see what steps Gowani took to persuade the owners against doing so, he said.

He also said that the police wanted to investigate whether Gowani was involved in any business with the said establishments.
