Blast accused claims of being beaten in jail

According to the complaint, another officer Paatkala, was also present at the time and it was his duty to save Shaikh, but he did not do so.

Mumbai: Nadeem Akhtar Shaikh, an accused in the 2011 Mumbai triple blasts case, has complained to the special MCOCA court that he was beaten up by two jail officials in Taloja Jail on March 17.

In his complaint, Shaikh has said that since he had constant fever, the doctor in jail sent him to a municipal hospital in Navi Mumbai and when he returned to the jail, jail staff Karbat at the gate on frisking duty asked him to strip in front of everyone as he wanted to search Shaikh. Shaikh told him to frisk instead which annoyed him and he allegedly first abused Shaikh and then started beating him with a stick.

According to the complaint, another officer Paatkala, was also present at the time and it was his duty to save Shaikh, but he did not do so. At that time, Shaikh tried to run towards the judicial department but he was dragged and beaten up mercilessly. Special judge S.M. Bhosle has directed the superintendent of Taloja Jail to file a reply to Shaikh’s complaint. “The jail superintendent to submit the report about the action taken in respect of the alleged assault on accused number 2 by jail officials between 2.55pm and 3.24pm,” the judge said.
