Mumbai: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has opposed the April 5 release of the film “PM Narendra Modi”. MNS leader Shalini Thackeray indicated that the party will carry out a “MNS style” agitation if the film is released before the Lok Sabha elections.

Ms Thackeray also slammed the makers of the movie for giving credit for lyrics to Javed Akhtar and Sameer. Both the noted Bollywood lyricists have publicly claimed that they have not contributed in any way to the Modi biopic.

The MNS film wing, Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Karmachari Sena, has stated that it will not allow the movie to be screened as it “violates the model code of conduct”.

Talking to The Asian Age, the President of the MNS film wing Amey Khopkar said that if the movie was screened on April 5, the MNS would disrupt it “MNS style”.

Mr Khopkar said that the main grouse against the movie was that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government was using it to bypass the code of conduct during elections by having it screened.

Mr Khopkar said, “I will meet party chief Raj Thackeray to discuss this matter and will take guidance from him on this as well. We will be declaring our course of action on Monday.”

PM Narendra Modi, directed by Omung Kumar is set for a theatrical release on April 5.
