Mumbai: Opposition from the locals and a rap from the judiciary had compelled the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) to make alternate arrangements for shifting its solid waste management plant from Dhavgi village in Uttan. Subsequently, the civic administration not only zeroed in on a plot in Sakwar village near Vasai but had also unveiled its ambitious plans to set up a waste-to-energy process plant. However, the land allotment has been rejected by the district collector owing to a resolution adopted by the Sakwar Gram Panchayat opposing the set-up of any waste management plant or a dumping yard in their jurisdiction.

B.G. Pawar, civic chief, confirmed this while he was interacting with a delegation from Uttan comprising members of local social organisation’s and heads of fishing societies including- Leo Collaso, Sharmila Bagaji, Helen Georgy, Haryl Borges, Renold Bechari.
