Mhada files plaint against 25 websites over fake info

These websites offered to provide answers for the queries of the applicants, misleading the citizens.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) filed a complaint with Mumbai police’s cyber cell on Monday against 25 online websites for giving out false information on the housing authority's 2018 lottery, whose details have not been finalised yet.

These websites offered to provide answers for the queries of the applicants, misleading the citizens.

A spokesperson from MHADA said, “We detected websites which were giving out wrong dates about various procedures of the lottery. One such website mentioned that Mhada will start giving out forms for applications of lottery by September or October but we have no such plans till now.”

Further she said, “In a separate website, a domain was created to answer the queries of citizens. The person who was answering had no authorization from Mhada. Thus, we filed a complaint with Cyber Cell against such sites.”

A total of 25 sites were detected for misguiding the people, Mhada officials said that one of the site was operated from Himachal Pradesh urging the citizens to apply.

The authority has one authorized domain ie https://lottery.mhada.gov.in to get the information pertaining to 2018 lottery.
