Mumbai: The Congress has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had been winning all the elections after the general elections of 2014, was afraid of imminent defeat in the Lok Sabha election.

The state Congress president Ashok Chavan said that the BJP’s star campaigner and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his aide and party president Amit Shah’s public meetings were not getting a good response from the people. Even within the short span of five years, people were feeling strongly against incumbency and did not want the BJP any more.

Mr Chavan said that the different meetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Devendra Fadnavis had got poor response.

“At various meetings, people left Mr Modi’s rally while his speech was going on. Those who were wearing black were not allowed in the public rally of PM Modi. Even, the people were not allowed to carry water bottles in the rally. The tobacco pick box, was also not allowed. This showed a defeatist mindset,” he added.
