Rise of swine flu affects everyone

Mumbai: There is a major spurt in cases of the swine flu in Mumbai in June. This month, so far, 110 such confirmed cases have been reported from the suburbs while three died due to H1N1 virus, according to the BMC’s epidemiology department.

An advisory has been issued to civic hospitals on how to tackle the swine flu cases, while 1,000-plus beds have been kept at 19 hospitals. Out of these; one woman was a 24 year-old resident from Dharavi. Since June 8, she was suffering from fever, cold and cough and on June 11 she was admitted to a BMC run hospital. This pregnant woman succumbed to H1N1 on June 13. Another woman was a 35-year-old resident of Malwani . Since June 12 she was suffering from cold, cough and fever. On June 15 she got admitted and on June 18, she succumbed to an infection.

Dr Padmaja Keskar, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s executive health officer, said , “All public and private doctors are regularly briefed about the guidelines on H1NI treatment. We have our doctors and nurses who are well trained to deal with the issues.”

“We have informed all the private practising medicals to report anything related to H1N1 virus and start with the treatment immediately,” she added.
