Bhopal: Two more farmers ended their lives in Madhya Pradesh in the last 24 hours taking the toll to 21 in last three weeks, even as state BJP chief Nand Kumar Singh Chouhan slammed Opposition Congress for “linking” all the suicide deaths to debt trap.

Reports reaching here said one Raghuvir Yadav (27), resident of Pali village in Chhatarpur district, consumed poison on June 21 and died in the hospital a day later.

His family members claimed that he had taken the extreme step due to mounting debt burden, while the local police said family dispute had driven him to commit suicide.

In another incident, one Babulal Malvya, a resident of Simrakud village under Panna district, committed suicide by consuming poison on Thursday.

His relations also claimed he was under stress for being debt-ridden.

Meanwhile, state BJP president Mr Chouhan accused the Congress of spreading misinformation on farmer suicide deaths in the state.

“The Congress leaders are dubbing all those who committed suicide as farmers for their political interest.

“There are cases of people committing suicide due to family dispute. But, such suicide deaths have mischievously been linked to debt trap. It has become a fashion to assign reasons of all suicide dea-ths to debt trap,” he said.

The Congress, however, took serious exception to his statement, saying that “it was shocking that Mr Chouhan has portrayed suicide deaths as a fashion”.
