Mumbai: The civic improvement committee of the Brihan-mumbai Municipal Corpo-ration (BMC) rejected the proposal of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), which demanded 15 plots from South Mumbai belonging to the civic body for Metro-III construction activities. Of the 15 plots, 11 plots were needed for a temporary basis and four were needed permanently. However, the proposal faced criticism from Sena councillors on Wednesday when it was tabled for approval.

Sena councillors including Vishakha Raut and Milind Vaidya strongly opposed the policy stating that the metro authorities aren’t conducting the work systematically. However, the BJP councillors supported the proposal and criticised Shiv Sena for stalling developmental works.

The plots were requested for several utilizations like constructing entry/exit points, rehabilitation purposes, ancillary works, depot construction etc. A plot at Mahim known as Vitthalrao Harishchandra Desai ground that is included in the 15 plots was also asked by the Metro authorities for constructing a car depot.

However, councillors slammed this move by stating that the ground is the sole open space in the area.
