Mumbai: A video has gone viral in which a caregiver at an old age home in Miraroad is seen beating up an elderly woman. The old age home sacked the caregiver after the video was condemned online.

The incident happened at Aadhar old age home situated in Mira Road. A person residing in the neighboring building, earlier this week, allegedly recorded the video at the old age home and sent it to his acquaintance of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). AAP party workers began campaigning against the alleged abuse at the old age home.

The video was tweeted to the Thane rural district police demanding action. Rajeev Singh, joint secretary of AAP youth wing in Thane region, also called up the local police but did not get any assertive response and therefore began campaigning to garner public support.

Senior inspector Vaibhav Shingare from Kashimira police station said, “We have sent PSI Deepak Dhanwate to the old age home and an inquiry has revealed that 13 senior citizens (eight women and five men) in the age group of 70 to 90 and three caregiver reside there. We spoke to every senior citizen but no one complained about anything. If we find anything during investigation, we will act accordingly.”
