MMRDA's stand affects Rs 600crore investment
Mumbai: The MMRDA’s stand on Made in India rakes is also a setback to the Indian Railways’ plan to set up a coach factory in Maharashtra. The railways had signed an MoU with the state to set up a coach factory in Latur. An investment of Rs 600 crore has been proposed regarding the same. Land acquisition for the same is in process. However, in its first setback, the MMRDA which comes under Fadnavis, may change the ratio of coach procurement from within the state.
The MoU was signed during the Magnetic Maharashtra event in the presence of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The MoU was inked by B. K. Agrawal, Additional Member (PU) Railway Board and Sanjay Sethi, CEO, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corpo-ration.
Mr Fadnavis had claimed that 15,000 people will get direct emplo-yment due to the coach factory.
The first phase of the project would require around 150 hectares of land in Latur and central ministry will be fulfilling this requirement.
The Asian Age tried contacting railway officials, but they remained unavailable for a comment.
