Mumbai: Upset with the plastic ban across the state, the All India Plastic Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA) is now exploring the option of moving court.

The AIPMA had approached the Bombay high court in November last year, praying against the sudden ban however the state had assured that it would take their interests into consideration.

Due to this decision, lakhs of people working in this Rs 5,000 crore turnover industry will lose their jobs, and the government will incur losses to the tune of Rs 800 to Rs 900 crore in goods and services tax.

The Maharashtra government has issued the notification regarding the ban on plastic on Friday and has given the BMC, police, all local bodies, and public representatives the responsibility to implement the ban.

All India Plastic Manufacturers’ Association president, Hiten Bheda told The Asian Age, “Because of this decision, more than 4,000 plastic and related small industries will be closed down.’
