Mumbai: Cheques found at guru's home

Seized following searches, they belong to 2 alleged victims of Sunil Kulkarni.

Mumbai: Searches at the residence of cult guru and Shifu Sanskruti founder Sunil Kulkarni led to the seizure of two cheque books and two signed cheques belonging to one of the two alleged victim girls. The crime branch officials are probing if Kulkarni made any monetary gains from his activities involving the girls and boys.

The victim sisters are meanwhile unwilling to come forward to record their statements. The police are trying to communicate with them as their statements will give an insight on Kulkarni’s activities and the cheques that were found. Kulkarni had been claiming to be a psychiatrist and had been administrating anti-depressant ‘Tryptom-ER-10gm’ tablets, which were also seized from his rented residence at Khar. “Apart from the cheques and cheque books, we have also found a master card of one of the two victim girls from him. We are gathering details of the possible transactions to find if he gained monetarily,” said a crime branch officer.

The police has also approached the Kulkarni’s family in Delhi to get more details about him, however they have allegedly stated they have no connection with Kulkarni. The crime branch officers have confirmed with Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) who confirmed that Kulkarni is not a doctor, as he claimed to be a MD.

Now the officials have approached the psychiatry committee in Nagpur for further clarity. “He claims to be a psychiatrist and has letter heads and business cards stating the same. We want to find from them if that is true, else it will amount to forgery,” added the crime branch officer. The police has recorded statements of the two male victims who had been staying with Kulkarni and the two victim girls at Khar.

The officials will submit the investigation report before the Bombay high court on Tuesday, as the girl’s parents had approached the HC seeking an FIR against Kulkarni.
