Mumbai: Residents of the Jer Mahal building are left in lurch with no assistance from the Mhada. The families are surviving without electricity from the past three days since the incident. Residents allege the vibrations of Metro 3 work as the cause of collapse. However, neither of the agencies has come forward to provide alternative accommodation to the residents.

A notice put by the authority’s Mumbai Repairs and Reconstru-ction Board (MRRB) which stated, “During the inspection of the building on 21.04.2018, it was noticed that ceiling of same room is in danger and may collapse in unpredictable time period.” The notice was put up on April 21, the same day of collapse. It also stated that transit will be provided to the residents. However residents allege that no one has offered accommodation so far.

“I am living in my family friend’s place since I have no where to go. The authority has not given any accommodation to us,” said a resident.

Denying the allegations of residents that MMRC was to blame for the incident, MMRC spokesperson said, “Presently, our TBM, Vaitarna 1 is around 120 m away and Vaitarna 2 is more than 300 metres away from the building.”
