Mumbai: State transport commuters have decreased by four crore in the past year, and drought is one of the reasons for the decline, said a MSRTC official.

According to data, in 2018-19, the number of commuters travelling by ST bus was 240.75 crore. In 2017-18, the number of commuters travelling by ST bus was 244.46 crore. Vice chairman and managing director of MSRTC, Ranjit Singh Deol, said, “There are many reasons for the decreasing number of commuters and one among them is drought. We cannot neglect that the increasing number of two-wheelers is also a reason for the decreasing number of commuters.”

According to the MSRTC officer, there were less weddings last year which also affected the number of commuters. However, Mr Deol said that MSRTC was taking efforts to increase the number of commuters.
