Heritage projects stalled due to GST
Mumbai: The civic heritage cell had undertaken restoration and beautification works of around seven heritage structures in the city over the last few years, of which two are stalled due to the implementation of the GST in July.
Among the projects, which has been stalled, includes the Fitzgerald Fountain located in Kalbadevi. Civic officials had sought permission to move and restore the fountain from the Heritage committee back in 2016. “The work of Flitzgerald fountain is stalled right now after the circular issued by the state government. Now we have to re-issue the tenders and fresh cost evaluation also needs to be done in view of the GST,” said a senior civic official from Heritage cell.
The state government’s circular says that tenders issued between July 2 and August 22 should be cancelled, as they do not mention the newly launched tax regime.
Meanwhile, restoration and revamp of several heritage monuments is currently underway. Banke Bihari hospital, an ENT hospital in Fort is also undergoing a major revamp wherein along with the restoration works, the civic body will build Modular OT as an additional facility.
Other projects include, Cooperage Bandstand, repairs of Muktipoj Dispensary and Health Care Centre at Byculla and Dr Bhajekar Hospital in Khetwadi etc.
