Mumbai: A minor blaze broke out below Chakala metro station Wednesday afternoon after a moving car caught fire. A 72-year-old is reported to have been injured in the fire. However, despite the flames emerging from the affected car, metro services (Versova- Ghatkopar) remained unhindered and on schedule, revealed officials from Mumbai metro one.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) disaster management cell, a level 0 fire call was received at the control room at around 2 pm informing that a white Honda City had caught fire and stopped below the Chakala metro station.

Locals revealed that the driver of the car managed to escape from the vehicle in the nick of time but a massive crowd gathered around it.

According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the fire was extinguished quickly and no casualty was reported. However, a 72-year-old person identified as Kameshwar Bhagvat is reported to have suffered minor burn injuries.

As the smoke escalated, metro authorities shut the exit gates towards the Versova side and vacated the passengers at the station immediately. “The cause of the fire is yet to be known and is still under investigation,” said a senior fire official.
