BJP retains its hold on key MBMC panels
Mumbai: Retaining its control over crucial panels, the BJP ensured a comfortable victory of both its candidates as chairpersons of the women and child welfare committee and the crucial standing panel in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC).
While advocate Ravi Vyas (BJP) was elected as chairman of the standing committee, his counterpart, Dipika Arora, bagged the top chair to head the women and child welfare committee. The process to elect both the chairpersons was held under the aegis of Palghar district collector Dr Prashant Narnaware on Wednesday.
Going by the BJP’s numerical strength, it was a smooth sailing for both its candidates as they posted comfortable wins over their rivals. While Mr Vyas bagged 10 out of the 16 votes, his Sena rival, Vandana Patil, bagged six votes. Ms Arora registered a similar score.
Thanking the party leadership for the opportunity, Mr Vyas vowed to perform his duties diligently to boost developmental work and enhance civic amenities.
The 16-member standing committee comprises 10 corporators from the BJP followed by four and two from the Shiv Sena and Congress respectively. The standing committee’s chairmanship is significant due to the statutory powers in context to financial consent.
BJP’s Vandana Bhavsar was elected deputy chairperson of the 15-member women and child welfare committee.
