Mumbai-Pune hyperloop may get service road
Mumbai: The Mumbai-Pune hyperloop corridor may have a service road running below in order to improve the connectivity of areas through which the proposed high-tech transportation system will pass.
The plan is still under consideration. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has recently submitted the feasibility report of the hyperloop corridor to IIT Mumbai in order to finalise the connecting point at Mumbai. Once the IIT gives its report, the plan of implementing the service road will be taken forward.
Hyperloop, which is still a developing technology, comprises floating pods within low-pressure tubes. This new transport system is expected to cover the distance between Mumbai and Pune in 25 minutes. “We are planning to develop a service road which will run below the hyperloop along the alignment. The idea is still under consideration and has not been taken forward. According to our plan, one can enter the service road through the toll plaza and through the service road, one can access properties close to the corridor,” said a senior official from PMRDA.
The Asian Age had reported on June 21, 2018, about the PMRDA’s plan to connect the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) with the hyperloop. However, the authorities have not yet finalised the location. “We have evaluated several locations in Mumbai but cannot finalise before we get the report from IIT Mumbai for the same. We have given the feasibility report to IIT recently,” said Kiran Gitte, metropolitan commissioner, PMRDA.
