Andheri Police nab 4 in WEH dacoity case

Mumbai: The Andheri police has arrested four persons in a highway dacoity case after they looted a Bandra-based businessman when he was on his way to deposit cash of  Rs 14.36 lakh in a bank.

The case, which was registered on the same day, was solved after 25 days, when the police caught the four accused with the help of CCTV cameras installed in the city.

Police sources said that the incident took place on October 30, when the victim Vijay Kadam and his friend Sandeep Patil, were intercepted by four bike-borne masked persons at the Western Express Highway (WEH) at Andheri. The accused made off with the bag full of cash at gun point and fled from the spot. When Kadam and Patil tried to retaliate, one of the accused struck Patil. The duo registered the complaint at the Andheri police station, where the cops checked the CCTV footage of the area and nabbed the four accused by tracking their bikes.

Navinchandra Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 10 told this paper, “We arrested the accused, and suspect that they were involved in many such dacoity cases on the highway. We have registered a case of dacoity against them and have recovered the amount and valuables worth Rs 2.62 lakh. Further investigation is underway.”
