Metro lines to be linked for easy commute in Mumbai

The objective is for passengers to be able to seamlessly change metro routes.

Mumbai: With a view to easing Mumbaikars’ commute, the Andheri-Ghatkopar metro line will be linked with five other metro lines in future with stations connected through skywalks. The objective is for passengers to be able to seamlessly change metro routes.

Work on an integrated transport system is already underway and the currently operational Mumbai metro line 1 has been linked to other metro routes such as metro 7 (Andheri east-Dahisar east), underground metro 3 (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz), metro 4 (Wadala-Kasarvadavali) and metro 2 (Dahisar-Mandale).

A MMRDA official working on the integration project said, “Line 7 will be connected at WEH (Western Express Highway) and line 2 will join at D.N. Nagar. As per the distance between both stations, skywalks will be built so that commuters can easily and quickly switch to the other line.”

Meanwhile, metro 4 - a 32km long elevated corridor - will join line 1 at Amrut Nagar in Ghatkopar. “The distance between both stations between line 1 and line 4 is more so the skywalks will be the longest here,” said the official.

As of now, civil work on metro 2 and 7 has begun in full force with nearly 40 per cent of the work completed, officials said.
