Depressed 73-yr-old woman jumps off Bhoiwada high-rise

The preliminary investigation revealed that Sharma had been suffering from depression following the demise of her husband.

Mumbai: A 73-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide Monday by jumping off the balcony of her high-rise in Bhoiwada. The police said that she had been suffering from depression after her husband passed away last December and staying alone ever since. The police has ruled out any foul play in the incident.

The woman was identified as Savita Sharma, who was found lying in a pool of blood in the Bhoiwada-based Crescent Bay Tower premises. The woman stayed in tower four of the housing complex, the police said. The incident took place at around 7.30am soon after which the police was informed about the same.

“The victim’s husband died on December 20 and she had been staying alone. Her daughter stays in Parel and she would meet her frequently,” said an Bhoiwada police official.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Sharma had been suffering from depression following the demise of her husband. She had also been staying alone which allegedly took a toll on her. The police claimed that she flung herself and ended her life.

The police said that on investigation they didn’t find any forced entry or struggle having taken place. The police will record the statements of Sharma’s daughter and neighbours to ascertain if there was anything suspicious about the incident.

The body was sent to KEM Hospital for post-mortem after the police co-nducted spot panchnama. The reports will reveal the cause of death. The police has registered an accidental death report (ADR) in connection with the incident.
