State health dept issues advisory for swine flu

It also tells how patients should avoid self-medication.

Mumbai: With over 250 deaths due to swine flu (H1N1 virus) across Maharashtra this year, the state health department has issued an advisory for all district level doctors in the state. The advisory includes pointers like contacting the doctor at the nearest medical health centre or hospital in case of persistent symptoms like cough, cold and fever that exceed four days of occurrence. It also tells how patients should avoid self-medication.

The state health department has issued an advisory, directing district officials that all cases of suspected or confirmed swine flu should be administered anti-virals as per the protocol and carry out vaccination of healthcare providers among other crucial measures. Civic health officers have advised people not to panic and seek medical help if they experience symptoms related to different ailments.

“Any person having fever along with symptoms like sore throat, diarrhoea and vomiting could be case of H1N1 and must avoid crowded places this season,” the advisory mentions.

Around 92 people in the city were reported to be swine flue infected in the city, bringing the total number of swine flue infected patients in 2017 to be 285. According to civic data, 10 out of the infected 285 people have died.
