Patripul to be dismantled after month
Mumbai: The work of dismantling of the century-old Patripul Bridge will be postponed for a month. A senior Central Railway (CR) official said that considering the sentiments of locals in light of the imminent arrival of Ganesh Chaturthi and other festivals, the bridge will remain open for pedestrians till September 24.
The CR will begin the dismantling from September 25. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will construct the bridge in 12 to 18 months once it is dismantled.
Earlier in the week, it was decided that the CR would dismantle the bridge from August 24. The decision was taken in a joint meeting of MSRDC officers, CR officers, the Thane police and local civic body officials at the Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Co-rporation (KDMC) office.
A CR official said, “Our staff had reached the site, but Kalyan residents requested to us not to dismantle the bridge for a month as several festivals would arrive in the coming months, including Ganesh Chaturthi. A Ganesh idol procession will be allowed on the bridge. However, motor vehicles will not be allowed on it.” He added that pedestrians would also be allowed on the bridge.
