Two Rajdhani Express chain snatchers held by police
Mumbai: Thane (rural) police’s local crime branch has nabbed two tailors who used so allegedly commit chain-snatching offences in the city by frequently travelling to and from their hometowns in Uttar Pradesh. The arrested duo revealed that they used to travel between the cities in air-conditioned trains, especially Rajdhani Express and used to stay at lodges in Mumbai.
The accused have been identified as Shehzaad Imam Mohammed Hyderi alias Vicky (32) and Mohramm Ali Abbar Ali Nakhvi (24). They are natives of Amroha and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh respectively.
Alarmed by the chain-snatching cases in the twin-city, SP Dr Mahesh Patil deputed a local crime branch team to conduct investigations and nab the culprits who had created panic, especially among women.
A team led by police inspector Vyenkat Andhale and assistant police inspector Pramod Badakh, under the supervision of additional SP Prashant Kadam intensified the vigil and activated their network of informers. Along with this, they also took the help of CCTV cameras for analysing the pattern of the movements of the bike-borne chain snatchers and noted their schedule and the interval between consecutive incidents.
“A few personnel began questioning the victims and reconstructing the sequence of events, while others scanned the CCTV footage collected from the areas around the spots where the incidents had occurred,” said Kadam.
With the help of cyber police officials, the hazy CCTV images of the bikers were developed, which helped the officials in finding the registration number of the Bajaj Pulsar bike used in the crime.
