Ola, Uber stir enters day 4, no solution yet
Mumbai: The protest by Ola and Uber drivers continued for the fourth day on Thursday. The Maharashtra Rajya Rashtriya Kamgar Sangh (MRRKS) said that the strike would continue till the demands of the drivers were not fulfilled.
The MRRKS had also involved political outfits and approached the government but a solution has yet to emerge.
Leader of Opposition in the Council, Dhananjay Munde and Mumbai Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sachin Ahir met transport minister Diwakar Raote over the ongoing conflict between cab drivers and cab aggregator companies on Thursday.
The NCP demanded that the government should interfere in this issue. It said that there was a huge disparity between what is being paid to the drivers and what is being collected from the passengers by the cab aggregators.
The transport minister said that the department has already notified the “City Taxi Plan 2017.”. However, the concerned companies have challenged the order in the high court and taken a stay on it.
Mr Raote directed Ashish Kumar Singh, principal secretary of transport department to appeal in the high court for revoking the stay. He said that he has asked the drivers to operate as a taxi in the city.
Meanwhile, MRRKS secretary Sunil Borkar, said, “We have received a positive response from the minister but we will not call off the strike till the demands are not be fulfilled.”
The city of Mumbai has around 50,000 app-based cars.
