Selfie costs 20-yr-old his life
Mumbai: A group of six-seven Chembur-based youngsters went to Badlapur to celebrate their Christmas vacation but one of them drowned while trying to click selfies in the Badlapur river on Sunday. His body was fished out on Monday afternoon by local swimmers who joined the rescue efforts. The cops are investigating the matter. The boy who died was a resident of Mankhurd and has been identified as Shahid Shaikh.
According to the Badlapur police, the youngsters were on a three-day holiday to celebrate Christmas. On Sunday, the 20-year-old went near river and was clicking selfies while perched on a rock when he slipped and fell into the water. His friends were unable to find him and called on the villagers for help.
One of the villagers said, “Some of our swimmers went looking for him but could not his body, so we called the cops. On Monday, we have found the body a kilometre away from the spot.”
Badlapur police station SPI J. A. Agarkar said, “We are investigating the case and will be talking to the deceased's friends. We have registered an ADR in the case.”
Last month, a Navi Mumbai college student in Nashik died after drowning in the Waldevi dam while trying to take a selfie. He was part of a group of 10 students, who went for a picnic to the dam near Ghoti in Nashik district. Sourabh Jagannath Chulbhar (18), a resident of CIDCO, lost his balance while attempting to click a selfie standing on a rock of the dam.
