Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) detected twelve cheating cases in the city on Monday during the fifth examination of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) students. Out of the 12 copying cases reported, 7 were in the colleges based in Nalasopara and the remaining were from Vile Parle-based college centers.

Talking to the Asian Age, Subhash Borse, secretary of MSBSHSE, Mumbai region confirmed that all the copy cases were traditional ones. “The students were found with chits and answer materials in the examination hall. We allowed the students to give the examination after giving them new answer sheets and asked to write the exam all over again.”

When asked if any actions will be taken against these students, he said, “After completion of all the examination, an inquiry will be assigned for all these copy cases after which a report will be submitted. Then, we will see what is to be done about these students.”

The board officials are happy that at least there is no question paper leak through any electronic medium like mobile phones and social media. “These kind of cheating cases are quite normal as students tend to attempt such things. However, we are happy that no paper leaks have hit the examination as of now,” Mr Borse said. Apart from the copy cases, on the fifth day of the HSC examination, around 18 students entered late at the examination centre. Out of this 18, only four were allowed the examination hall and give the paper.

The remaining was marked absent who will have to give their re-examination or ATKT exam in June. Most of the late coming cases belonged to centres located in Malad, Borivali, Bhayander, Nalasopara and Virar. Around 3.30 lakh students are appearing for their HSC examination in the Mumbai region that includes Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts.
