PSI booked for dragging, slapping lawyer in Kurar

The cop asked the lawyer to reveal the confidential details of his client, who is a murder accused.

Mumbai: An advocate filed a non-cognisable complaint against a police sub-inspector of the Kurar police station after the latter allegedly dragged the lawyer to the police station and asked him to reveal the confidential details of his client, who is a murder accused.

When Dilip Gupta, the advocate, refused to comply, A. Landge, the police officer, allegedly slapped and threatened him of dire consequences.

On Sunday, Landge went to Mr Gupta’s residence in Jawahar Nagar at Goregaon west and allegedly dragged him to Kurar police station. When they reached the station, Landge asked Mr Gupta to give out the confidential details about his client who was accused of murder a month ago. Landge told Mr Gupta to give the address of the accused, to which Mr Gupta did not comply. Following this, Landge slapped the lawyer and threatened that police officials will include his name in the FIR registered for murder.

In the aftermath of the incident, the local lawyers association held a protest against Mr Gupta’s alleged mistreatment at 11 am outside the police station Sunday. Senior police officials had to be called to get the situation under control. Mr Gupta registered a non-cognisable complaint against Landge and the police has assured to probe the case.

Mr Gupta said, “I was dragged to the police station and mistreated by the police official. The officer forced me to divulge my client’s details, to which I did not comply according to the lawyer confidentiality clause.”

When The Asian Age tried to get in touch with Landge by calling on the station number, the officers asked to contact the senior police officer of Kurar police station. Officer Limbanna Vhanmane said, “The situation was brought under control by noon and the complaint will be investigated.”
