Vijay Mallya gave Rs 35crore to BJP, alleges Jayant Patil

Mumbai: An uproar occurred in the state Legislative Assembly when Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Jayant Patil alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had received the donation of Rs 35 crore from absconding industrialist Vijay Mallya on November 8, 2016 by cheque.

He demanded an inquiry into this allegation, which has been in circulation on WhatsApp. BJP MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar objected to these allegations and demanded that they be removed from the House’s record. Sudhakar Deshmukh, who was in the Speaker’s chair, said that a decision would be taken later on.

While talking about the law and order situation, Mr Patil alleged that BJP had received Rs 35 crore from Mallya on November 8 2016 by a cheque drawn at Axis Bank.

Mr Patil also questioned the BJP and demanded an inquiry while taunting the Shiv Sena, asking why it was not ‘getting such donations’ while being part of the coalition government.

Mr Bhatkhalkar counter-alleged that the Congress and NCP had also received favours from Mallya. “Mallya provided helicopters for a wedding to a senior NCP leader in 1987,the BJP leader claimed.
