BJP arrogant, has not treated allies well, says Singhvi

The Congress leader also expressed confidence that Opposition unity would remain intact to fight the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Mumbai: Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi has criticised the Narendra Modi government over “its failures on all fronts”. The Congress leader also expressed confidence that Opposition unity would remain intact to fight the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

On the Modi government completing four years at the Centre, the AICC spokesman on Saturday charged that BJP was terrified of the prospect of non-NDA parties coming together ahead of the 2019 general elections even as its own allies were deserting it. Addressing a press conference, Mr Singhvi said the arithmetical truth of polls is that in triangular or multi-cornered contests, the BJP succeeds. “We want to ensure there is no vote division. The coming together of Mamata Banerjee and Mayawati at Bengaluru for Kumaraswamy’s swearing-in and alliance of traditional UP rivals Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav for five by-elections is not a small thing. NDA allies are leaving the BJP like it’s a sinking ship,” Mr Singhvi said.

To a question on whether the Shiv Sena, which has announced it would not tie up with the BJP in future elections, would be inducted into the anti-NDA camp, Mr Singhvi said, “I did not name any party and I am not referring this one.”
