Rapist' school director chills in Europe while police waits

The police claim that since the school and the family of the accused are co-operating, they are willing to wait.

Mumbai: The 57-year-old director of an Andheri-based IB school, who was set to return on June 25, as stated by him in his emails to students’ parents and his wife, has not yet arrived in the country.

The police, however, will wait for another week for him to come back and if he doesn’t, the police will declare him as absconding and issue a lookout notice for the accused founder-director who allegedly raped a three-year-old minor girl in November last year.

The police claim that since the school and the family of the accused are co-operating, they are willing to wait. Officials attached to the MIDC police station in Andheri east confirmed that the accused founder-director has not arrived in the country despite him giving assurances of coming back to be present for questioning about his role in the rape case.

The police officers involved in co-ordinating with the school and the family of the accused said that they were informed about the delay in his return and have decided to give him an extra week to return to the country and be present in the MIDC police station for further questioning.

Speaking to The Asian Age, Navinchandra Reddy, deputy commissioner of police, zone 10 said, “As per my knowledge, the accused person has still not reported to the MIDC police station, and if he does not come back till the next week, we will follow the procedure and declare him an absconder, following which a lookout notice will be issued against him.”

According to the police sources, the accused director went to Europe along with the students and a teacher in the first week of May but did not return with the rest of the group on May 28. The director’s wife, who was quizzed by the police earlier, had said that he is likely to return on June 25.
