Mumbai: After camping in Kerala’s Kannur to track down Binoy Kodiyeri in connection with the rape case filed against him with Oshiwara police station, the Mumbai police have now issued a lookout notice against him.

The officials said that Binoy Kodiyeri, elder son of Kerala CPI (M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, has failed to appear for questioning before the investigators, ever since he was booked.

While the accused is on the run, the Dindoshi court is set to hear an anticipatory bail application (ABA) on Thursday. His legal counsel has told the court that the allegations are baseless and that it is a matter of marital dispute.

The lookout notice has been issued as a precaution to refrain him from fleeing the country. All the airports now have also been alerted about the potential flier.

“We have issued the look-out notice against Kodiyeri. Further investigation is underway,” said Manjunath Singe, Mumbai police spokesperson.

While the notice has been issued and the bail plea is set to be heard this week, the Mumbai police are still continuing the hunt for Binoy, police said.

A 33-year-old woman filed rape case against Kodiyeri on June 13, after she allegedly found that the accused was already married. The woman, who is a native of Bihar, alleged that the accused exploited her for years altogether and later left her with their child.

In her complaint, she revealed that they first met at a dance bar in Dubai in 2008. The complainant has allegedly also given some pictorial evidence to the police, supporting her claims.

Legal counsel of the accused however has stated that the woman knew about Binoy’s background and that she had sent a letter to the accused seeking alimony of Rs 5 crore before approaching police. Before approaching Oshiwara police the woman had also submitted a complaint application to the Mira Road police, which was not looked into.
