MNS launches social media war against BJP

The posters on social media allege Mr Fadnavis and several of his ministers of being corrupt.

Mumbai: Days after the Enforcement Directorate grilled Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, party supporters have taken to social media to lash out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Under the tagline ‘the culprits of Maharashtra’, MNS supporters have flooded social media with posters accusing several saffron party leaders, including chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and state party chief Chandrakant Patil, of corruption.

Supporters of the Raj Thackeray-led party have also targeted other ministers like Girish Mahajan, Pankaja Munde and Sudhir Mungantiwar on social media.

These posters claim that despite serious corruption allegations against many of his Cabinet colleagues, the chief minister has given them a clean chit. “We do not want this government back in power as they have turned the state into a hell,” these posters read.

“As soon as we started the campaign, we have been receiving calls from across the state. Callers are giving us information about the various scams under the government. We will first scrutinise them before putting them up on social media,” said Sandeep Deshpande, the MNS general secretary.

The MNS has alleged that Mr Fadnavis is involved in a number of scams, including the Rs 1,200 crore Khargar land scam and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scam.

Mr Patil, who is also the state revenue minister, has been accused of perpetrating irregularities in a number of land deals, including one at Pune’s Haveli tehsil.
