Mumbai: To prevent an early sale of Project Affected Persons’ (PAP) tenements, the Brihanmumbai Munici-pal Corporation (BMC) has decided to publish the list of beneficiaries on its website. This is expected to curb the practice of selling the PAP tenements within a scheduled time limit of 10 years, said civic officials.

According to civic officials, BMC has to rehabilitate people, who are affected by various development and infrastructure projects, by providing them free of cost alternate accommodation.

However, it has been found that in several cases the project affected persons (PAPs), sell their tenements soon after getting possession and return to slums.

The municipal rules have prohibited sale of tenements for a period of 10 years. However, PAPs sell their tenements at places, where they get good price. Some of them also sell tenements, as they are not happy with the alternate accommodation provided to them, said civic officials.

To prevent such practices, former BJP corporator Manisha Chaudhari had demanded that BMC should publish the list of PAP tenements and beneficiaries on the municipal website so that the information becomes public.

Replying to this, the BMC has said the details will be soon made public on the municipal website.

“The civic body is preparing a software to distribute for the distribution of tenements to PAPs. It will contain all the information about the project and PAPs. This will ensure that tenements will not be sold before the time limit of 10 years,” said a civic official.

According to civic officials, after the Development Plan (DP) 2034 is implemented; several road widening works will be undertaken across the city. Along with this, the nullah widening works are also expected to start, which will require rehabilitation of lot of PAPs.
