Mumbai: Miscreants set ablaze eleven bikes, car
Mumbai: Eleven motorcycles and a car were set ablaze early on Monday in Shrirampada, Bhandup by unidentified miscreants. The Bhandup police has registered a case against unknown accused for causing mischief with intent to cause damage.
According to Bhandup police officers, the incident took place around 2.30 am on Monday. An officer said, “We suspect the accused had removed petrol from one of the motorcycles and poured it on the other vehicles and set them ablaze. Later residents from a nearby building saw the fire and tried to douse it by pouring water on the vehicles. The residents also informed fire brigade and police station about the fire. After we reached the spot, we saw that almost 11 bikes and a four-wheeler were destroyed in the blaze.”
Another police officer said, “So far, the owners of seven of the motorcycles and the car have identified their vehicles. The rest of the two-wheelers are still unidentified. We have questioned the motorcycle owners to ascertain if any of them knew any person who could have done this. We have initiated a search operation to nab the unidentified accused and are going through CCTV footage of societies and shops to nab them.”
Senior PI Shripad Kale from Bhandup police station said, “This came as a surprise for everyone because most of the motorcycle owners are residents of the area. Our team is trying hard to find the persons behind the vandalism and will arrest them soon.”
Recently, a 16-year-old minor boy was arrested by the Santa Cruz police for accidentally setting ablaze ten motorbikes in a parking lot at Juhu Tara Road in Juhu. According to sources, the minor was smoking near the parked vehicles, and when he threw a lit matchstick on the ground, they caught fire.
