Mumbai: Six held over teenage boy's murder

Besides Ranvijay, the police arrested Vinay Sahani, Krushna Sahani, Ramesh Firayi, and Shivnath and Renudevi Sahani, the boy's parents.

Mumbai: The Tilak Nagar police has arrested six accused for the murder of Randhir Sahani, a 12-year-old boy whose body was found in a suitcase, wrapped in a blanket with his hands and legs tied, near Kurla Terminus yard three months ago. Ranjvijay Sahani (20) — the main arrested accused — is the son of the factory’s owner and allegedly choked him to death, as the boy was not able to work properly due to sickness.

Randhir had been brought to Mumbai from Bilanpur in Uttar Pradesh to work in a bangle factory in Kurar, Malad. According to police officers, Randhir was working there for six months. He was suffering from a cold, cough and had a stomach ailment too.

Vijay Khaire, senior PI Tilak Nagar police station, said, “Randhir was not eating anything. Also, he used to sleep a lot as he was ill, which infuriated Ranvijay. On January 8, Ranvijay beat up Randhir badly and choked him to death. The accused, on realising that the boy was dead the next day, sought the help of the child’s parents and relatives in order to dispose the body.”

Besides Ranvijay, the police arrested Vinay Sahani, Krushna Sahani, Ramesh Firayi, and Shivnath and Renudevi Sahani, the boy’s parents.

Commenting on the case, PI Shankar Babar said, “Krushna and Ranvijay bought the bag from a Malad based shop while Shivnath and Renudevi changed the corpse’s clothes. They then tied his head and legs together and then put it in the bag.”

Ramesh took the bag in a rickshaw and went to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. All other accused were keeping watch. They had planned to put the bag in the Puri Express train, which goes to UP but — as there was a checker —they changed the plan and threw it outside LTT station.”

DCP zone 6 Shahaji Umap, said, “The parents of the accused went to UP, met the victim’s mother and gave her Rs 1,11,000, saying that her child had died owing to a health issue.”
