Mumbai: After the city experienced high temperatures, with the mercury rising to 41 degrees on Sunday, Mumbaikars can look forward to getting a respite from the sweltering heat.

The maximum temperature recorded for Tuesday was 32.8 degrees, at par with the normal.

The Indian Meteorological Department’s officials claimed that the higher temperatures are expected to decline by up to five degrees this week.

Although the IMD has withdrawn the heat wave warning for Mumbai, officials said that citizens should take precautions and keep themselves hydrated.

“The heatwave like conditions in the city prevailed due to the setting in of warmer easterly winds, followed by delay in the surfacing of cooler sea winds. Now with the arrival of northerly winds, the soaring temperatures are expected to drop,” said a senior IMD official.

The minimum temperature recorded for Tuesday remained 24.4 degrees. As per the weathermen in Skymet Weather, “the anti-cyclone is being pushed away since Monday and northerly winds have begun to blow over the region. Additionally, sea breeze also played its role and began to set in over Mumbai earlier than it usually does.”

However the humidity levels still remained on the higher side, as the Colaba observatory recorded the relative humidity at 78% in the morning,  9% higher than normal. Officials stated that the humidity levels may play a role in creating discomfort for Mumbaikars during afternoon.

“As the cooler sea winds set in during evening, it will be pleasant,” added the official.
