Unreserved tickets to be printed in Marathi on Central Railway
Mumbai: In bid to promote the Marathi language, Central Railways (CR) will print unreserved tickets in Marathi along with Hindi and English language.
The unreserved tickets of the suburban trains as well as express trains will be published in three languages from Maharashtra Day i.e. May 1. Currently, they are being published in two languages, Hindi and English, only.
The Indian Railway Passengers Amenities Committee had decided in 2017 that the regional languages should be promoted in respective states from 2018. The CR’s decision was part of this decision. The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) has made changes for printing of a third language in the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS). The database needs to be updated as per the regional language in the UTS.
Uday Boghate, general manager OF CRIS, said “As per central government policy, we have made the changes in the application to add the regional language in ticket.”
UTS tickets will now display information of the journey in the regional language.
