Infra body to identify water bodies in MMR
Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s environment society, which is the funding and planning agency for various environment conservation projects, has decided to identify water bodies across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Consultants will be appointed to carry out the groundwork for the project. Along with identification, improvement of water quality will also be carried out. The regional map of the MMRDA had revealed that there are around 2,000 water bodies across the MMR, but that is not accurate, according to the society.
An official from the environment society said, “The water bodies across the MMR region will be identified and listed. The appointed consultants will go to each site and check the condition of the water body. If the water is being used for potable purposes, the quality of it will also be checked.”
The MMRDA has floated tenders to appoint consultants and they will be appointed by next week, the official confirmed.
