Reason behind SoBo teenager's suicide unknown
Eighteen-year-old Manmat Mhaiskar’s suicide still remains a mystery even after ten days after he jumped off the terrace of the 20-storey Dariya Mahal in Malabar Hills on July 18.
According to sources, Manmat had a talk with his close friend Vashisht Agarwal the previous night and the duo planned to meet the next day. Little did Vashisht know that it was probably the last time he had a word with Manmat, who was found lying in a pool of blood the next day in his building.
The police has questioned Vashisht along with other friends of Manmat, trying to know what triggered Manmat to take such an extreme step.
The officials probing this case are under immense pressure as the deceased is the son of two top IAS officers, Milind and Manisha Mhaiskar. Manmath, who was studying law in Pune’s Symbiosis College was visiting his home in Mumbai’s Marine Lines on Saturday to spend the weekend. Manmath was supposed to go back home on Monday morning, but for some reasons he stayed back home for an extra couple of days. Meanwhile during his stay, he was constantly catching up with his childhood friends, one of whom was Vashisht Agarwal.
Dnyaneshwar Chavan, deputy commissioner of police, zone 2 said, “We have questioned his friends. Although we have not found any suicide note, the probe is on to ascertain the reason behind this extreme step.”
Agarwal, who was questioned by the Malabar Hills Police had said that he had no clue that Manmat was planning on crashing at his place, otherwise he would be alert. Although they had planned on meeting later on Tuesday, Manmat’s arrival was uncalled for. Since Manmat was a regular at Dariya Mahal as he often visited Agarwal, the guards did not stop him and he proceeded towards the terrace, which had an open door. Leaving behind his backpack, Manmat jumped off the terrace.
