UIDAI takes reel route for public
Mumbai: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a contest for filmmakers. The short film should be about the Aadhaar card project, its impact and the perception of people and their expectation from the cards. Rs 3.5 lakh in prize money has been set aside for 13 winners. The move has been well appreciated by filmmakers in the city.
The UIDAI has made it mandatory for the participants to be an Aadhaar card holder and for all the participants to have an Aadhaar linked bank account for hassle-free and fair disbursement of prize amount, if selected as a winning entry.
It is an open-themed film contest and content that has any derogatory or demeaning will be disqualified from the contest.
Pranav Vaidya (21), an amateur filmmaker from Thane said, “It’s nice that the government is giving a chance to amateur filmmakers like me to showcase their work.” The top three films will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and the next 10 films will get a prize of Rs 20,000, which makes prizes worth Rs 3.5 lakh up for grabs.
Importance of Aadhaar
The Aadhar card is a universal card that does not really have a specific purpose behind it. Unlike a voter ID card, whose sole purpose is to permit the holder to take part in the electoral process, the Aadhaar card was not created with any specific use in mind. It is also useful in availing government subsidies, including LPG, and opening a bank account.
