Metro 3 shed to be set up at Aarey, confirms MMRC
Mumbai: Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) CEO Ashwini Bhide Tuesday reaffirmed that the metro 3 car shed will be set up at Aarey Colony. Ms Bhide was presenting the idea and work of metro 3 (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz) at the Bombay Yacht Club near the Gateway of India when she slammed Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thacker-ay’s suggestion to relocate the car shed to Kanjurmarg.
While presenting at the programme organised by “Together V Can Social Sanchar Organisation”, Ms Bhide said, “A non-technical person cannot suggest where the car shed should be located. It is a technical decision taken after the survey.”
“We need this 30 hectare land for the car depot. This hasn’t been a deliberate option. It is a technical decision. The car depot cannot be set on remote land. It should be near the last station. Maintenance and operation control will be carried out from the car depot,” she said.
There would be 55 trains and 8 coaches whi-ch would regularly take a night halt at the depot and be maintained there, Ms Bhide explained.
Ms Bhide explained that the car shed could not be set up at Kanjurmarg because the land was stuck in litigation since 1996. This was also why the MMRDA was not using the land for setting up the metro 6 (Lokhandwala-Jogeshwari-Vikhroli-Kanjurmarg) route. Instead, the car shed was being set up at some other place.
Refuting allegations of the Aarey land being used for commercial purposes, Ms Bhide, said, “There is absolutely no such plan; there is no reason to do this. This is misinformation which is del-iberately being spread.”
