Mumbai: ‘Nightlife’, the pet project of Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is under the shadow of noise pollution norms and silence zones, which he has started on a trial basis from the Christmas eve till the New Year celebrations. At present, there are no silence zones declared and the government has allowed New Year’s celebrations till 5 am, which might cause disturbance in the residential areas. But when the government will declare Nariman point, BKC and Lower Parel as nightlife areas in few days, they have to take silence zones in consideration, sources told.
There were complaints from Shivsena, and Ganpati and Navratri organisers that government is not allowing more time to celebrate festivals. But now government is working on a proposal of 24x7 nightlife. They will declare three areas in Mumbai on a trial basis very soon. On atrial basis, the government has allowed to celebrate and drink till 5 am on Christmas eve and for New years celebrations. All hotels and restaurants having foreign liquor licence of FL3 categories are only allowed till 5 am and liquor shops of FL 2 category allowed up to 1 am. Excise department have issued circular in this regards.
There are restrictions on noise after 10 pm and Bombay high court has banned few metro works. When night life areas will be declared, The government will consider those aspects also, told sources.
