Peter was lied to' by Indrani, Rahul Mukerjea tweets
Mumbai: In an attempt to prove his father Peter Mukerjea’s innocence in 2012 Sheena Bora’s murder case, fiancé of the deceased, Rahul Mukerjea once again took to twitter on Friday evening and claimed that “He (Peter) certainly did not know what Indrani was up to before, during, or after, with regard to any crime.” He pleaded on the micro blogging website that Peter was not “in the know” and “charges against Peter ought to be dropped”.
The CBI is relying on certain e-mails and messages sent by Peter to his son Rahul to prove that even after Sheena’s murder, Peter was trying to convince Rahul that she was alive and was doing fine and this shows his involvement in the crime.
However, Rahul in his long tweet has said, “Emails and recordings must be seen in the correct context.” Explaining Peter’s situation, he further added, “He (Peter) believed what Indrani had told him that Sheena was indeed fine and didn’t want to be in touch. And therefore on that basis, he was supporting Indrani’s claims that Sheena was “okay’. It was not a case of misleading because of complicity in any crime, but a situation where he really believed that Sheena was okay because his wife was assuring him of such — and he was trying to tell me the same (sic).”
“In early 2012, when Sheena contacted Indrani with a view to clearing the air, Indrani had told Peter that Sheena had in fact contacted her with a view to leaving the relationship and wanted Indrani’s help to do that (Peter was lied to). Therefore, any of Peter’s subsequent reassurances given to me that Sheena was fine, or must be fine, were as a result of him believing what he had been told, which Indrani also corroborated to make believable by sending a couple of SMS messages to herself and to Peter, from Sheena’s phone, claiming the same,” the tweet said. He claimed it was not just Peter who believed the “story by Indrani”, but everyone who inquired about Sheena was “equally convinced”.
When contacted Indrani Mukerjea’s defence lawyer Gunjan Mangala said, “We don’t really want to give any reaction on it (tweet). He keeps writing whatever he wants to write.” She also said that he should have said this to CBI. “Now the matter is before the court and his saying all this will not make any difference,” she said. The police arrested Indrani, Peter Mukerjea, former husband Sanjeev Khanna and Shyamwar Rai for their alleged involvement in Sheena’s murder.
