EEH, WEH repairs to be done by May
Mumbai: Mumbaikars may have a less bumpy ride as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to complete the repairs of two important carriageways- Eastern Express Highway (EEH) and Western Express Highway (WEH) by May 15, 2018.
So far, three agencies have come forward to repair the EEH, since the first call for repairs did not see much participation.
During the first bidding call, only one firm came forward to undertake the repairs of WEH.
As part of the pre-monsoon work, patches have been identified by the authority to carry out the repairs, so as to ensure a smooth ride for motorists during the monsoon.
The documents of the three agencies - Sartak, Saket, G.I. construction- will be forwarded to the chief engineer of MMRDA for further process.
Once selected, the companies will be responsible to repair two parts of EEH.
The authority has divided the entire 23.5 km long carriageway into four parts for repairs.
“Four separate agencies will be undergoing the repair work of EEH so as to complete the work fast and in a well-organized manner,” said a senior MMRDA official.
However, the repairs on the WEH will be done at one go. “When we invited tenders, only one firm had come forward. As per the government notification at least three firms should be present. Thus, we are inviting bids for the second time,” added the official.
EEH and WEH are the two important arterial roads of the city, which are used by lakh of
commuters on a daily basis.
